As we continue up the road to Mt. Lemmon, massive rock and Saguaro cacti are everywhere.

The Forest Ranger Station is just ahead, and we elect to pay the entrance fee so we can stop along the way.

Apparently, one can travel to the tiny community of Summerhaven directly without any fee, but not really knowing what we were doing, we parted with the $5 daily fee.

I guess you can buy a pass for $20 that will get you into Mt. Lemmon, Madera Canyon and Sabino Canyon Parks for a year.

Maybe next year.

We wave good-bye to the Ranger ... (and also to our $5) ... and continue up the mountain.

The elevations are marked along the highway every thousand feet, and we notice that the Sagauro start to disappear around 4,000 feet. They are nowhere to be found after 4,500 feet in elevation.
