Thank
You – From Patsy Lantz
The Lantz family wishes most sincerely
to thank the Esperanza Homeowners Association
for the donation to the Extended Hours
at Continental Family Medical Center,
made as a memorial to Dave. Dave really
enjoyed all his neighbors and his work
with the Association. Thank you, too,
for all the expressions of sympathy received
by his family.
Common
Areas Committee Report — By Tom
Cooke, Chair
CORRECTION and ADDENDUM: The last Periodico
Common Area report contained a transposed
sentence, which stated that the bulk of
the work on the Bridge Park wash project
had been completed by Robert Frost and
Tom Cooke, under the direction of Ken
Miller. This is erroneous, as although
Robert and Tom provided some assistance,
by far the lions share of this project
has been completed not only under the
direction of Ken Miller, but with his
physical labor as well. Ken has done an
excellent job, and his efforts have saved
the Association hundreds and hundreds
of dollars by locating broken concrete
with which to line the wash and the banks,
instead of far more expensive rock. Ken
was also able to obtain favorable rates
for heavy equipment usage necessary for
the job, and delivery of the concrete
at no charge. Its no stretch to say that
Ken's efforts on this project of realigning,
and improvement of the wash have been
accomplished virtually single-handedly.
Thanks for a great job, Ken!
With the summer monsoons, we unfortunately
get high winds as well. As those of us
who summer here will recall, we recently
had a storm which produced 70 mph gusts.
When this happens, we invariably lose
branches, and even trees, all over the
subdivision. This causes the problem of
having to take our landscapers off of
their regular duties and put them on "clean-up"
until the problems are taken care of.
I ask that those of you who have requested
landscaping services which have not been
completed, or which seem to be slow in
getting completed, to bear with me and
be patient. All tasks will be finished,
just as soon as time allows. No one has
been forgotten.
We have many residents who help us keep
Esperanza Estates looking good by keeping
the area around their homes picked up
and neatly trimmed. Among the most ambitious
and helpful is Jack O'Donnell, who resides
in a quad unit at 726 Calle del Ensalmo.
Jack not only takes beautiful care of
his own property, but the neighboring
quad as well. We truly appreciate Jack's
help and thoughtfulness.
With the Sahuarita landfill scheduled
to close to commercial dumping at the
end of August, we will have to be on the
lookout for illegal dumping in and near
our subdivision. Some has already been
found. More information on this will be
provided in the September Periodico.
One of the benches in Mt. View Park has
been moved into a shady spot under one
of the mesquite trees adjacent to the
arroyo. Phil Hopkins has donated another
bench, in memory of his late wife, which
has been placed in one of the common areas
on Circulo del Norte, near where the wash
crosses beneath the street. It has a nice
mountain view.
A large pine branch, which had grown against
our perimeter wall on Vereda Calma and
was threatening the same, has been removed.
For an unknown reason, quite a number
of our large century plants sent up "death
stalks" this year, foretelling their
ultimate demise. All are now in the process
of removal. This is quite a task, as they
weigh, on an average, 800 pounds each.
Our next common areas report will appear
in the September Periodico. As always,
please call me at 399-0455, if you have
or observe problems in the common areas.
Esperanza
Estates Tours
The Esperanza Estates Hospitality Committee
has organized a tour to Alamos, Mexico.
Alamos is an old colonial mining town
400 miles south of the border. It is a
beautiful city that has been restored.
Many Americans and Canadians have brought
back great mansions from ruin.
The tour dates are January 26, 2004 to
January 30, 2004, 5 days and 4 nights.
The cost per person, double occupancy,
is $549 plus $10 per for additional water,
cold drinks and snacks while on the bus
for 5 days. The total cost of $559 per
person is a special price for our Esperanza
Estates residents. The tour for the general
public is $825 per person.
Space is limited to 40 people. A $200
deposit per person accompanied by the
completed Release and Warranty form must
be made to reserve your seat. The $559
total is due before November 21, 2003.
A complete trip itinerary and forms that
must be filled out to go on this tour
can be picked up at the McCall's home.
All checks are to be made out to "Esperanza
Estates Tours" and sent to Jerry
and Delores McCall, 751 Calle Del Regalo,
Green Valley, AZ.
Interested people contact Jerry and Dolores
McCall at 399-3984 or if we are not at
home, contact Phyllis Johnson-Frost at
399-9003.
So grab a partner, let's fill a bus, and
have a great trip.
Hospitality
Committee -- By Phyllis Johnson-Frost,
Chair
On our second annual Fourth of July event,
we enjoyed a poolside picnic at 6:00 p.m.
At the entrance a flag, loaned by American
Legion, Post 66, reminded us of the occasion:
pride in our Declaration of Independence
in 1776. The food that graced our tables
lined with red, white, and blue streamers
must have raised memories of family picnics:
potato salad, baked beans, and lusciously
many other favorites. World War II songs
floated out to the tables where twenty-seven
us shared the fun of the occasion.
A special welcome to our newcomer partygoers:
Bill and Karen Haley, Mavis Rodrigues,
and Evelyn Winfrey. Also, welcome to the
guests of two of our residents. Promoting
friendly attendance competition, the top
3 streets are Nueva, Regalo, Napa! Thanks
for donations to a 50-50 raffle into the
patriotically dressed jar. The money was
divided between the suspiciously lucky
ticket holder Sheila (who happened to
be handling the drawing) and our EE Volunteers
fund!
This committee is offering a new program
to residents, organized by the McCalls.
See their letter introducing the first
of "Esperanza Estates Tours"
in this summer edition of the Periodico.

Letter
of Appreciation, July 9,2003
Dear EEHOA Property Manager:
My aunt, Loretta Sayce, is a long-time
resident of Esperanza Estates who lives
at 760 Circulo Napa. She is currently
visiting with me and my family in Pennsylvania.
When she received your recent post card,
she asked me to write and thank you for
both your post card and for taking care
to replace her burned out street light.
I understand that the charge to replace
the bulb, including time and postage for
the post card notification, is five dollars
($5.00). A check for that amount is enclosed
along with my aunt's great appreciation
for ensuring the perpetual safety and
appeal of not only the streets at night
but also of the charming Esperanza Estates
community you manage for the EEHOA as
well.
Sincerely,
Howard P. Bahnsen, (nephew) of Loretta
P. Sayce
