de Esperanza Presidents Report - By Ben Sheffield Have you seen all of the festive holiday decorations up and down all of our streets and in the common areas? Mona and I enjoy driving around after dark just to see all of the wonderful things our neighbors have done as well as what the volunteers, who show up when needed, do to take care of our common areas. Thank you one and all. As you may have noticed we have changed our mailing address to more readily accommodate those who pick up the mail. The US Post Office can be accessed 24 hours a day which allows for greater flexibility to ones schedule. Our new mailing address is: PO Box 181, Green Valley AZ 85622-0181. The nominating committee had three responses to our call for candidates to run for the three Board positions that require filling at the annual meeting. They were Sheila Bennen, Tom Cooke, and Max Perry. Coincidentally, they are the same three whose terms are expiring. They are all good workers who have contributed to the success of our sub-division. Their bio's are attached. At the December 20th Board meeting the final Budget for 2005 was approved (copy attached) along with the mailing for the Annual Meeting on January 17, 2005 at Desert Hills Recreation Center, 2980 S. Camino Del Sol. This is a change of location from last year. Included in this years mailing is a request for an advisory vote on the ever increasing problem of maturing vegetation. Watch for this when you receive your packet for the annual meeting and please share your thoughts on this issue. These packets will be mailed the first part of next week. The November 30, 2004, Statement of Revenues and Expenditures along with the Statement of Financial Position follow in this issue (front & back). It appears revenues and expenditures will come out even. We are still developing financial histories that will guide us more accurately in the preparation of our budgets. Wishing you all Happy Holidays and safe journeys for all who take to the roads or skies. MEET YOUR EEHOA BOARD CANDIDATES SHEILA BENNEN 155 S Camino

ESTATES HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION Common Area Maintenance Committe By Tom Cooke, Chair Matters in the common areas are pretty much on an even keel. We are able to meet all requests for maintenance within a reasonable time frame, and this time of year with the colder weather, our foliage takes a bit of a breather from its usual growth. The landscape crew will be working on cutting our many birds-of-paradise and lantana plants, and cleanup of the usual debris from our trees. So far the inch or so of rain we had recently has not restarted much in the way of a weed crop, although a few patches have been noted and will be taken care of.A rather major make-over is being planned for the former shuffleboard courts near the pool. The present bricked over area will be partially removed, so the pavers can be replaced at a level consistent with the former south two courts, which will also be covered with pavers. The plan also calls for re-engineering the drainage in this area, so that rain water falling on the concrete adjacent to courts will be transported directly into the wash through a pipe system. Presently, run-off in this location is channeled into a dry well, but this has proven inadequate and has caused problems here in the past. The net result will be that the entire area between the rail and the wall traversing the wash, will be covered with pavers, at a uniform level. This will eliminate the "trip hazards" presently in the area, and make a much larger area for gatherings taking place at the pool ramada. Work is scheduled to begin in early January, with a volunteer work party to prepare the site. Our regraveling program has begun again, and will be continuous through January. We are attempting to address the refurbishment of a number of areas that have had little attention for some years. As always, please call me (399-0455) if you have or observe problems in the common areas. NOTE OF INTEREST: The name of our subdivision publication, the Periodico, means "newspaper, or "periodical," in Spanish. The correct pronunciation of the word is: peer-e-oh-de--co. This is because in Spanish, the "o" is stressed. Most of us 'gringos' pronounce the word quite a bit differently. But oh, well, we know what we mean Hospitality Committee by Phyllis Johnson-Frost, Chair The Full Moon Party on November 26 warmed the "cockles" of the 44 neighbors who gathered at our Park site; bon fires for warmth and s'mores; grilled wieners with trimmings; hot chocolate with optional liquors brought by participants; finger food brought by participants, loading the tables; all topped by good fellowship. Thanks to members of the committee who were involved in grilling the food supplied by committee experts; to ex-officio helper Tom Cooke who gathered the firewood; to other members who graciously signed in and ushered the "bayers at the moon"; to the clean-up crew! The committee welcomes two of the latest volunteers who signed up for Hospitality under the rising full moon: Nancy Brown and Jonnie Authier. Details on the next event, February 13, will be forthcoming after the committee is called by the chair to a planning meeting shortly after the holidays. Suggestions to the committee are welcome by phone (399-9003) or on a signed note. We aim to serve the social expectations of our community, within the current parameters of our facilities and resources. Home Tour By Joan Moreaux, Committee Chair Our Home Tour is scheduled for Sunday, April 3, 2005 Start out the New Year by joining us and helping with the home tour. We are planning a meeting in January. If you are interested in having your home included in the tour or being a home greeter and helping out, please contact Joan Moreaux at 648-7515. FOUND --- ARE THEY YOURS? Found December 8th on Circulo Napa near Placita Nueva: a pair of single vision prescription glasses, with gold frame and tortoise shell bows, yours? phone 648-1250 November Periodico Available By Charl Petry Were you away at Thanksgiving time when the November Periodico was delivered? If you did not get a copy and would like to have one, copies will be available at the Ramada area of the pool to the right of the pool entrance, for one week from today (December 29). Help yourself. New/Former Owner By Sheila Bennen New: Eunice and Richard N. Doman,763 Calle del Regalo. Former: Sylvia D. Novack In Memoriam Helen Rumsey 1000 Regalo Capital Projects By Robert Frost, Chair The driveway repair project will be moved to next year. There is a discussion about replacing the outdoor lamps. The present design is no longer available and does not provide a "Southwest" flavor. A quick survey of Home Depot prices indicates that it would cost at least $20 per lamp for replacement, $40 if the sensor is also replaced. This does not include any cost associated with the installation. This discussion is in the preliminary stages and a committee is being formed to solicit input and draft a recommendation to be presented to the board.Another project that is in the conceptual stage is an extension of the ramada in the shuffleboard area. In January, pavers will be put in to improve the ground surface and provide flooring for the ramada. Neighborhood Relations Committee By Norma Stanley, Chair As of the December meeting there are two unpainted garages. Will check to see they are painted in the next few weeks. A call was made to a homeowner regarding a large tree in her yard that needs trimming and cleanup. She is willing to have someone who works for the Association do the work if it is not too expensive. Will get back to her with a price. The bulk of neighborhood problems this year have been those involving either traffic (parking) or trees. Parking is spelled out in the CC&Rs with the exception of SUVs and smaller passenger vans which are in abundance around here. It was brought to my attention that in addition to parking problems, garbage cans could be painted a consistent color, namely black. Also, the replacement of outdoor lights and light poles should be consistent with original fixtures as closely as possible. Therefore, perhaps an ad hoc committee could be formed to address these issues with the idea of incorporating them into the CC&Rs to bring them up to date. Esperanza Estates Tours By Jerry and Dolores McCall There are only two months left to register for the Copper Canyon, Mexico tour. Tour dates are February 27th to March 6th, 2005. The cost is $969.00, per person, double occupancy, and includes: 8 days, 7 nights, private motor coach, train voyage, hotels, 14 meals, tours, and visa. A deposit of $100 per person is required. Final payment is due January 20th, 2005. Twenty-two persons have registered for this tour. We must have a minimum of 20 persons. The tour Company has taken reservations from other neighborhoods to reach our goal. All Esperanza Estates residents will be picked up and returned to the Esperanza Estates Pool. A reminder: there is no long term parking at the pool, so please make arrangements to leave your vehicles at home. For registration forms and more information CONTACT: Jerry and Dolores McCall, 751 Calle Del Regalo,Phone: 399-3984 Sheila Bennen Phone: 399-0501 Volunteers of Esperanza Estates By Tess Ewing, Co-Chair Thank you to all who donated to our recent garage sale held at 202 Napa. This sale boosted our funds by $270.00. Our next fund-raiser will be our annual auction on Friday, February 4 at the home of Ben and Mona Sheffield, 201 Napa. This is a fun event starting with Wine and Cheese and a silent auction. Following this- the live auction with a very funny and witty auctioneer. Some of the things offered last year were small household items, wine baskets and a "dinner for four". This year we will be offering more of the same plus a day trip to Kitt Peak. This is being donated by one of our resident amateur astronomers and his wife. A picnic lunch will be included. While newcomers to Esperanza Estates are our guests of honor at these auctions, we would like to invite others interested in attending. Contact one of the team if you would like to have a fun evening.
