de Esperanza President’s Report – By Max Perry Hello Everyone. Well, this has certainly been an interesting month. One month ago, literally as the gavel rang down adjourning May's meeting, I received a phone call alerting us to the possibility that the White Elephant was considering a relocation to our neighborhood. Some didn't believe it would ever happen, but others didn't think we could stand by and wait and see. So, as most of you know, a major campaign was launched to dissuade them. After many letters, newspaper articles, phone calls, petition drives and a strong turnout at the White Elephant's board meeting last week it appears I have some good news for you. It has been reported by sources believed reliable that the White Elephant has located an alternate site for their new store. I don't want to give false hope to anyone, but it looks like all our efforts have paid dividends. Thanks to everyone who called, wrote, carried and signed petitions and showed up to let them know how we felt. A special thank you to Bud Haynes for representing your Association in my absence at the meeting. Let's all hope the reports are confirmed soon. Summer is definitely here and that means the monsoon will be upon us in only a few weeks. There are many palm trees in private areas that are greatly in need of trimming. These overgrown trees are a real fire hazard should they be struck by lightening, as was a tree across the street from our house just last month. Your Board is taking a hard line on this issue. Please have your trees trimmed as soon as you can. The work at the pool is finally coming to a close. Thanks to the hard work of Ben Sheffield and Ken Miller, the bathrooms are looking great and the new storage facility is nearly done. Everything should be finished in time for our Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration. Check out the story in the Hospitality Committee report below and RSVP right away. It'll be a hot time for sure. Finally, Bruce Liljegren brought an idea to the Board this month that, I think, has a lot of merit. He proposes a Monday Memo to be sent to every homeowner via email. It sounds like a great communications tool and I'd like to give it a try. To make it work, of course, we need your email address. So take a minute and drop me a line at max@esperanzaestates.com and I'll put you on the list. And, I assure you, your address will be safeguarded. Until September, have a great summer. Common Areas Report for June – By Tom Cooke, Chair All is fairly well in the common areas. The palm tree trimming is nearly complete, and the weed situation is pretty much under control throughout the subdivision. We have finally finished with the gravel spreading for this year, and nearly all areas requiring work are pretty well finished up. We have made great strides in this program over the past 3 years, and the Board is pleased with how things are coming together. Because of the need to continually refurbish graveled areas through maintenance, we will never completely finish with gravel work, but it appears the bulk of it is now over. We do have a number of smaller areas needing attention, and one alleyway needing rebuilding, which will be done in future years. Should you know of areas you think we may have missed, please let me know. Steve Brown continues his seemingly never-ending work on outlining our trail system with rock borders. His latest efforts are on that portion of the trail from the Vereda Calma entrance to the west, along Arroyo 9. He has also done some interesting rock work in his front yard which is worthy of note, at 743 Napa. Steve's efforts are much appreciated. This may be our last common area report until September, as the Periodico ordinarily does not come out in July or August; however, maintenance work on the common areas will go on over the summer months as always. Accordingly, please advise me of problems or concerns in the common areas by phone to 399-0455. Neighborhood Relations – By Norma Stanley, Chair Last month there was an old issue concerning trees that may or may not have needed trimming. The neighbor with the trees in question trimmed them anyway so there is no need for concern. I also received a call from a homeowner stating he was having some work done so if there was a concern expressed by anyone about the traffic and parking, he would be able to inform them of the construction. How thoughtful!!! It has been noted in looking around Esperanza Estates that many of our original in-ground garbage can units are in various stages of disrepair. Anyone wishing to correct this problem at their residence may do so by purchasing a new unit at Ace Hardware in Green Valley. The purchase price is $135.99 plus tax. There are no replacement parts available. Palm Tree Trimming———By the Board ALL OWNERS HAVING PALM TREES IN THEIR YARD WHICH ARE VISIBLE FROM THE STREET ARE REMINDED THAT THE CC&RS OF THE SUBDIVISION REQUIRE THEY BE NEATLY TRIMMED AND MAINTAINED. THIS REQUIRES AN ANNUAL TRIMMING. IT IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT THIS BE COMPLETED PROMPTLY DUE TO THE IMMINENT ARRIVAL OF THE MONSOON SEASON. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS WITHIN THE SUBDIVISION WHERE LIGHTENING HAS STRUCK PALMS, SETTING THEM AFIRE IF THEY HAVE DEAD FRONDS. SHOULD THIS HAPPEN AND LIT FRONDS FALL ONTO A ROOF, THE RESULTS COULD BE CATASTROPHIC. WE CANNOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN, AS NOT ONLY THE OWNER OF THE TREE IS PLACED IN JEOPARDY, BUT NEIGHBORING PROPERTIES AS WELL. LETTERS WILL BE GOING OUT TO ALL OWNERS HAVING SUCH PALMS, ALLOWING 30 DAYS TO HAVE THE TRIMMING COMPLETED. IF NOT DONE, THE BOARD WILL ORDER THE TRIMMING TO BE DONE, AT THE EXPENSE OF THE OWNER. THE FIRM DOING THE PALMS IN THE COMMON AREAS IS TRIMMING ,ETC. THEY HAVE ALL NECESSARY LICENSES AND INSURANCE. THE PROPRIETOR OF THE FIRM IS ROB MCCORD, TELEPHONE 721-9472, CELL 869-9472. HOWEVER, OWNERS ARE FREE TO EMPLOY ANYONE THEY WISH. SHOULD YOU FALL WITHIN THE CATEGORY ABOVE,
PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THIS IMMEDIATELY. Recreational Facilities – By Bruce Liljegren , Chair On-going projects at the pool include: fixing in-ground sprinkling system, getting spa temp to stay put at 102-104 degrees Fahrenheit, getting low level lighting/pool light operational and, yes, getting those jets to work properly in the spa. Remember to take that shower. Hospitality – By Lavonne Corral, Co-Chair Plans are underway for an old-fashioned Fourth of July with plenty of food, fun, and fellowship anticipated. More information is provided in this Periodico. A bank account was established for the Hospitality Committee with an initial deposit of $332. These funds are to be used for future Hospitality-sponsored events and expenses. This account will be supplemented from funds raised by the raffling of donated items and charging a nominal fee for some socials. Anyone who has a talent for cooking or party planning is encouraged to be a part of our Hospitality team. The new gas grill, donated by Sam Bernard and Trish Rodemeyer, will get its first usage on July 4th. Remember – an RSVP is required for the 4th of July picnic. Wahl In Memoriam Marlene McKay Volunteers of Esperanza Estates – By Lois Blacker Funds on hand - Bank Account $1,967.42 Petty Cash $ 43.08 Total $2,010,50 These funds were generated by an auction in February and the Home Tour in April. Our funds had been depleted in January with the completion of the brickwork in the shuffleboard area. The total amount spent on the Ramada/Shuffleboard project was $10,046.13. Countless hours of labor by very dedicated volunteers contributed to making this gathering place a reality. No activities are planned until cooler weather.
When all of the volunteers have returned
for the winter season, we will be meeting
to discuss upcoming events.
