President’s
Report – By Max Perry
I hope everyone is enjoying
one of the nicest winters
we've had in a long time.
Day after day we've enjoyed
beautiful sunshine with soft
breezes. Now, if we could
just get a little rain, maybe
between midnight and 3:00
am. Sounds like Camelot.
This month I'd like to use
this space to address a thorny
topic that has occurred in
the last couple of weeks.
That topic is our door-to-door
curb painters. Some background
first: They first appeared
almost a year ago asking
if we would be interested
in hiring them to paint the
house numbers on the curb
of every house in the neighborhood.
At that time the Board did
not express an interest in
the project. So, we heard
nothing from them until a
couple of weeks ago when
they showed up and started
going door-to-door. I informed
them there were No Soliciting
signs posted and they informed
me they had already painted
several curbs. In fact, as
I was talking to them, one
of our neighbors came up
and requested they do his
house next. I am aware of
the no soliciting language
in the CC&R's and the
wishes of some residents
to not have people come to
their door. But, I am also
aware that well over 100
homeowners have requested
that their curbs be painted.
To date, I have talked to
fewer than 10 homeowners
who have been offended or
concerned by the men coming
to their doors.
But, we continue to look
into the issue. Today I spoke
with a Pima County Sheriff's
deputy. She told me that
signs posted requesting No
Soliciting were meant to
inform but could not stop
people from using the county
owned streets and sidewalks.
Each homeowner is responsible
for controlling access to
their own property and welcoming
solicitors or turning them
away. We are requesting further
legal advice from the Pima
County Attorney.
Finally, I would suggest
that if they come to your
door you can either not listen
to their "pitch",
shut the door and turn them
away or hire them to paint
your curb. The choice is
yours.
Common Areas Report--By Ken
Miller and Tom Cooke
Matters are well under control
in the common areas, and
all necessary tasks are being
handled expeditiously.
One favorable aspect of an
unfavorable situation--our
drought--is that we have
not had the usual crop of
spring weeds that the rains
always bring this time of
year. In fact, there are
fewer weeds than we have
seen in Esperanza Estates
in years. This is undoubtedly
the result of the lack of
water, which they need to
germinate. Thus, any weed
spraying, which we are usually
lining up at this time of
year, will be postponed.
Steve Brown, Ken Miller,
and Tom Cooke completed some
refurbishment of a small
unused area located on Holgado.
The gravel was spruced up,
the cactus trimmed, a pathway
created and lined with rock,
and the bench in this area
moved to a shady location.
The area will now be called "Rinconcito
de Esperanza", and a
sign with this name is being
made. The translation is "little
corner of Esperanza".
Stop by and take a look the
next time you are on Holgado.
Ken Miller is still actively
engaged in improvement work
in the Bridge Park wash.
This project has been ongoing
for some time, and will also
be continuous until eventually
completed. Presently we are
awaiting the proper type
of equipment to bury some
old stone work in dry wells
in the wash itself. These
aid in drainage during the
heavy monsoon rains by percolating
the water into the ground
before it reaches the streets.
As always, if you have or
observe problems in the common
areas, please call either
Ken at 393-1914, or Tom at
399-0455.
CC&R's – By
Sheila Bennen
We have the recorded copy
of the new parking regulations
and they will be mailed to
you in the next few days.
These pages should be added
to your current copy of the
CC&R's.
I will be printing new packets
of the CC&R's and By-Laws
in the near future. If you
have misplaced your copies
or have them at another home
you may want to purchase
an extra set. If you need
an additional set please
call Sheila at 399-0501 and
leave me your name and address
and I will get copies to
you. If I am not at home
leave a message. The packet
will be $5 to cover the printing
cost.
Hazardous
Waste – By
Sheila Bennen
The next Hazardous Waste
Pick-up will be on April
8th. Mark this date on your
calendar. More about this
in the next Periodico and
MMM (Editor’s note:
MMM = Monday Morning Memo).
Green
Valley Directories – By
Sheila Bennen
The new Green Valley Directories
will be distributed soon.
GVCCC has arranged for the
Lion's bin to recycle the
old Directories. Please remove
the front and back cover
and drop them off at the
bin. If you are unable to
do this please drop them
off on the counter of the
Hospitality area at the pool
and Mary Beth Wallace will
transport them for you. You
can also recycle old phone
books the same way. Good
time to get rid of all of
this stuff.
GVCCC 2006 Directory -- By
Charl Petry
Delivery of the new, 2006
GVCCC Directory is now complete.
No copy was left at a locked
gate or an unoccupied house.
This is an excellent time
to check your own listing,
view the up-to-date maps
of Green Valley and the surrounding
area, and look over all the
helpful information the directory
contains. If you'd like to
change or correct your listing,
or be listed if you're not
listed, or if you haven't
received a copy, give me
a call. Charl Petry 648-2541

We hope everyone can resolve

possible. Discuss the matter
with me. Then, if you wish
the board to take action,
it will be necessary to fill
out a complaint form. These
forms will be available at
the pool or from me.

Sheila Bennen
We would encourage each of
you to ask any "trade
person" that you feel
does an excellent job to
place an ad in the Periodico.
We would like our homeowners

like a copy ready ad. Please
call Sheila Bennen at 399-0501

Neighborhood
Relations: 2005-2006 Annual
Report
–By Norma
Stanley, Chair
Neighborhood Relations handled
five problems regarding parking.
All have been resolved except
one which is ongoing. In
May a letter was sent to
the White Elephant expressing
our disapproval of their
relocating on Esperanza Blvd.
opposite our subdivision.
In October, calls were made
to four residents having
signs in their yards other
than the allowable "For
Sale" signs. They were
removed to inside their fences.
In November, a problem involving
yard maintenance was corrected.
I would like to take this
opportunity to thank all
those residents for their
cooperation. This cooperation
from you and all our residents
is what helps to keep Esperanza
Estates the great place it
is.
It has been another good
year! Thank you.
Hospitality
Committee – By
Sam Barnard, Chair
This month your Hospitality
committee sponsored a FREE
appetizer hour at the Pool
on Valentines Day, February
14. We had cheeses, meats,
vegetables, fruit, crackers,
drinks and a special Valentines
Day cake emblazoned with
the theme of the day, "LOVE
YOUR NEIGHBOR." It was
a great feast! We had over
90 of our Esperanza neighbors
attending. This event was
in appreciation for all of
you who have attended our
events and supported us during
the past year. Your positive
comments and attendance at
our gatherings make all of
our efforts worthwhile. A
special thanks goes to Nancy
Moore who coordinated this
event.
We now have a sound / speaker
system, which has been generously
donated by Bob Johnson. This
should make our Hospitality
events even more enjoyable.
The Hospitality Committee
also has some folding tables
and some large roasting pans
that are available for use
by our homeowners if you
are having a large function
at your home. Please contact
one of the Hospitality committee
co-chairs if you find you
have a need for these items.
Next month, back by popular
demand we will again have
our Hamburger Night on Tuesday,
March 14, from 5:00 P.M.
to 6:30 P.M. at the pool.
