President’s Report – By Max Perry

Hello everyone from cooler, but certainly more humid, Central Indiana.

Since we are still in Indiana and our vice president is in Tacoma, this month's meeting was presided over by our secretary/treasurer Sheila Bennen. Sheila reported that the meeting went smoothly and was quite short. Not much business was transacted but she wanted me to relay a few points for the Periodico.

As has been reported earlier, it is time to trim the palm trees in both our common areas and on homeowners property. Our regular trimmer, Rob McCord, will be doing the work for the Association again this year. Each homeowner may use anyone they like, but Rob is licensed, bonded, insured and experienced. If you would like to use him his number is 721-5472.

We have had a number of homeowners contact the Board about our contract with Waste Management. Sheila Bennen has looked into it and feels we should address our rates with WM. We'll do that over the summer and bring a recommendation to the Board in the fall.

I'm happy to report that the spa replastering has been completed and Gary Chelseth reports that users appear very pleased with the results. Thanks to Gary for staying on top of this project for the last several months.

As you all know, the Board authorized the signing of a contract with Barker-Morrissey Construction to build our new ramada at the pool. That contract has now been executed and the project has been submitted to Pima County for the proper permits. Assuming the permits are granted in a timely manner, the project should be underway by July 10. The contract has a maximum price of $110,000. Tom Cooke will lead a demolition crew on July 6 and could use a few more volunteers. Call Tom if you would care to help.

As is usual, the Board will not meet until September. And, of course, this will be the last Periodico until the fall. So, speaking for the entire Board, I want to wish everyone a happy and safe summer. If you have time, drop by the pool and watch our new ramada go up.

Common Areas Report for June
By Ken Miller & Tom Cooke, Co-Chairs

Overall, the common areas are in pretty good shape. Our routine maintenance is ongoing, and we have been able to keep up with maintenance requests pretty well. Occasionally, these get lost in the translation to the work crews, so if you have made a request that doesn’t seem to be getting done, give us a call at 393-1914, or 399-0455.

We would like to call your attention to some additional rock work that has been done by our resident master, Steve "Stony" Brown. It’s along side the EE Trail where it passes south of Circulo del Sur. Steve unearthed a large cache of river rock that had apparently been buried there for many years, and used it to align a "rock river," nearly the entire length of that part of the Trail. He also included his usual interesting design work along the way. It looks very nice, and if you have not seen it, its worth the trouble to take a stroll down that part of the pathway.

We would like to extend our thanks to Sig and Carmen Friedman for their purchase and installation of another bench along the upper part of the Trail, to the south of their home. The bench was purchased in memory of a family member, and is marked with a small plaque. It’s a nice spot to stop for a rest and enjoy the mountain view.

Common area palm trimming is expected to begin about July 8th or so. We will be using Rob McCord again this year, and his company, Trimming, etc. They have all required state licenses, are bonded and insured. Rob will trim palms for private persons in EE as well, while he is working here. If you would like to make arrangements with him his phone is 721-9472, and cell number 869-9472.

Each year the Association is required to trim approximately 58 trees which are situated in the common areas. We actually have quite a few more than that, but the smaller trees are taken care of by our regular maintenance people.

We received some information from a source believed to be reliable, that AAA Landscape Maintenance, with whom we contract for regular maintenance, was employing persons not in the US legally. However, an investigation evidenced this was not the case.

As always, if you have or observe problems in the common areas, please contact us at one of the numbers above.
